How I got here
During my training and volunteer work with animals, I discovered that communication between us needs to be mutual.
I loved animals from as long as I can remember. When I was 7, my family got a beautiful, high driven Siberian Husky, named Kato (aka Kiciuś). We didn’t know anything about raising a dog and in my city in Poland, no one really heard about training. All we could hear was that huskies are an untrainable breed. So we were left with a highly driven dog that becomes reactive to other dogs and we thought there was nothing we could do to change that. We did the best we could to manage his reactivity (mostly by avoiding all dogs whenever we could) and my beloved Kato lived with us for 16 years! I can relate to everyone with a dog not behaving in the way they wish him to and feeling that there is nothing that they can do to help. There are a lot of misconceptions out there and what we hear may be far from the truth.
When Kato died, I was devastated but I quickly wanted to be near animals as much as I can. I started volunteering in an animal shelter and read my first book about dogs’ body language - On Talking Terms With Dogs - Calming Signals by Turid Rugaas. It gave me a new perspective on what I thought I knew and hooked me to keep searching for new ways and ideas about dog behaviour.
Since then I done numerous courses and conferences which taught me that we can help any animal, regardless the breed, species or the age. It was too late for my beloved husky, but I hope I can help all of you now, so it won’t be too late for your beloved pooch.
